Coaching Goals for 2019

Can you believe this is the third article about basketball goals I am writing. I first started with an article in 2016 titled New Years Resolutions for 2017 and then in 2017 follow with an article setting basketball goals for 2017. This year since I have heavily been involved in coaching my 2019 focus is on coaching goals.

At this time of the year, every year, I look back at the year that was and see how far I’ve come. Have I been productive? Did I gland most or all of my goals?

I tend to expect a lot of myself and usually I miss a few micro goals here and there. However, as I am very focused when I look at how far I’ve come over the course of a year I can truly be proud of myself.

2018 in review

What a year it has been for me from a basketball coaching perspective. Firstly I was able to work with the Sydney Kings during this 2018/19 NBL season and recently I was named the Sydney Comets youth league head coach.

The latter part of the year has been all about coaching and boy has it ever been busy. Planning training sessions, working with the individual players on the Kings roster as well as picking up some individual coaching.

I really don’t know why I didn’t pursue coaching as a career earlier. I absolutely love it! The doors that have opened as a result to me being more involved in the game has made me relook at my basketball goals or should I say, coaching goals.

2019 Coaching Goals

In 2019 I have set some sizeable coaching goals now that I have come to the realisation that I want this to be my career.

Next year I am hoping to visit some US D1 colleges and spend some time learning the ropes. Networking in hopes that one day I will get a gig as an assistant coach and eventually a head coaching position. The greater plan is to be in a coaching role in a US college by 2021.

Setting your goals for 2019

In last years article setting basketball goals I went through a process on how to set goals. I highly recommend everyone reads this.

Setting goals is a great way of ensuring you stick to something and follow through with it. Included with setting goals is setting micro goals. I do this monthly to ensure I am tracking towards my yearly goals.

Like a GPS needs a destination to calculate your route so you need goals to ensure you are on the correct path. How else can you track how well you are going? I ask every athlete to plan their goals and watch your focus increase to get the best performance and result from yourself.
